What are the typical mistakes when applying blush? We explain the biggest pitfalls and how you can avoid them.
Blush mistake no. 1: skin type/face structure
When it comes to the right application of blush, you often hear the advice to smile. The product is then applied onto the rounded cheeks - seemingly perfectly placed. However, this technique usually works only on very young, balanced skin. Fine lines or wrinkles are emphasized rather than concealed with this method. In addition, depending on the bone structure, the cheeks slightly fall in after smiling - even on very young women and men - which leads to the blush being placed too deep or even almost next to the mouth. It is better to make up the face in a relaxed, natural pose. Find the cheekbones by finding the sideline from the pupil down to the highest point of the cheek.
Blush mistake no. 2: placement
Blush placed too far up or blended too high above the cheeks is our blush mistake number 2. This faux pas causes the face to lose definition and to look inward. The result is that the focus is diverted away from the eyes, and the make-up doesn't look cohesive. Keeping the triangle of skin directly under the eye free-from products is key. Exceptions can be products in the colors of the specific skin tone.
Blush mistake no. 3: consistency
A common mistake is using products that don't match your skin type. Powdery blushers look rather unflattering on dry or mature skin, as the powder settles in fine lines or wrinkles. In this case, creamy products are recommended. Reflective or shimmering blush tones should be avoided on very structured textured skin surfaces, as these emphasize the structure even more. In this case, matt products are more suitable.
Blush mistake no. 4: brush size
Brushes that are too big or too small for the cheeks don’t allow a perfect application of blush. Brushes that are too large often lead to the mentioned problem of blush being applied too far up or down, which negatively affects the overall balance of the face. Brushes that are too small create visible texture when attempting to blend. For optimal blending, a medium-sized, soft, curved, and slightly tapered brush is suitable. We especially recommend the Blue Master Contoured Blusher Brush and the Blue Master Complexion Blending Brush.
Blush mistake no. 5: color
